Rose Bowl 2008

Yeah, not like football. This is something I did in floral design school. It's a bubble bowl with 5 roses and curly willow. It's pretty simple.
Well it looks easy, but it's tricky because the roses want to float to the top, so you have to trap them!
I asked my partner next to me to stack her's on top to see what it would look like
And I thought three really looked cool.

Bob's flowers

My awesome sister-in-law Cami allowed me to do her father's sympathy flowers. They turned out amazing! I feel it was my best work yet. I recived so many compliments, and felt that my work had truly honored Bob. It was made with love, and I think poeple could tell. These pieces are a great example of personalizing.

Bob's greatest joy was his grandkids. On the casket piece, I hung little tags with the names of the grandchildren, also his three kids, and wife. In the two side pieces, I put floral tops on 24" glass cylinders. Inside the cylinders are swimming calla lillies with curly willow, and 11 goldfish representing the grandkids, and on the other side there are 3 goldfish representing his children. I used a lot of symbolism. For example, sunset colors, yellow, red, brown, (showing the end of this life) and sunflowers (the sun will rise for another day), and also sunflowers have a cute personality, their faces follow the sun ( follow The Son). The fish are below (family left on earth), and Bob is above ( in heaven).

This is kind of a bad picture of the piece, but in this one you can see the little white tags.

The top three are the corasages for Cindy(Bob's sweet wife) and two daughters Cami and Ang. The boutonniere on the bottom left was Bob's and the simple rose was for his son Kory.

Sorry, fuzzy picture, but this ended up being the layout. Originally, the two column pieces were supposed to be on two podiums on the side, but I came to find out they didn't have them, so we just placed them on the ground. Still ended up looking amazing.

Ok, so the top floral arrangment on the cylinder comes off for easy travel, and if you look close you can see the fish towards the bottom. Swimming in the water is white callas and "fire" or "flame" calla lillies, and curly willow.

Used in these pieces were red roses, calafornia sunflowers ( brown centers) and daisy poms called Viking ( I know, they look like mini sunflowers, the yellow ones with brown centers) and the greenery used is Myrtle.

Spring Fling

I love to personalize my flowers. Ashlee wanted a fresh look, with her favorite color. Jared served an LDS mission in Peru. So to we added small peruvian limes to scheme. It was a subtle touch that made their wedding flowers different than all the rest. Although Ashlee's wedding was at the end of the summer, it's not breaking any rules to have a spingy kind of look.

10 Centerpieces

Cake

Bride's reception bouquet, Originally, Ashlee just wanted have the plain white gerbera daisies for the reception too, but sitting out in the August heat quickly made them wilt and look frumpy by the afternoon. So with a quick trip to Costco, this was the improv bouquet I came up with. Surprisingly, Ashlee loved it more than any of the rest.

I designed this on the spot, and became inspiration for a picture in my Idaho Bride Magazine ad. This is the guest book table piece.

Close up on the cake, I sliced the peruvian lime, and placed a couple of daisies and roses on the cake.

Punch table. How embarrassing, a couple stems were left out before the picture was taken. Don't worry, I took care of them before any of the guests arrived.

Ashlee's Temple bouquet. Her dress really wasn't blue, the sun was just really bright.

The throw bouquet. I wired and taped those limes in the bouquet too. Sadly, I also forgot to pull off the protecter petals off that rose in the bottom right. The rest of the browning is due to the limes.

The bumber about encorporating fruits, especially citrus ones is that they have super evil super powers on flowers. They cause early wilting and browning. That is one reason you should not keep fresh flowers in your fridge at home. Just being around fruit does that to flowers. That was the main challenge with Ashlee's flowers: it all had to be done the day of the event.

The Classic- Red Roses and Calla Lillies

So this is the 3rd wedding I have done flowers for. Miss Holly was sweet enough to hire me. It was a pretty small and simple job, but turned out amazing! Pictures never do justice.

Mother's Corsage

This is the Bride holding her bouquet, and wearing the small fresh floral hairpiece I made for her. She looked stunning!

One of the eight centerpieces. I was told to make for 6, so we improvised a little. Improvising is something that happens at every event. The vases were a little too shallow to leave the calla's stems long. It made me sad to have to cut them down. Here they are placed with some curley willow. My tastes prefer a simple look. But the trendy complicated things are the most fun to do.
And this is our groom. Yes, he kept the shades on for the ceremony. Unless upon request, I like to do the Groom's bout different than the father's or the groomsmen.

Very First Wedding

Before I was able to attend Floral Design School, one of my very best friends allowed me to do the flowers for her wedding a year ago in June. She kept it pretty simple, so it wasn't overwhelming, except the wholesaler that I worked with threw the order out, so I had to do everything the morning of, while still participating in the wedding activities (wedding, pictures, luncheon, and reception). It was a very busy day. But I would have to say that Leslie's wedding had me on my toes the whole time!

Here are some pictures of my very first wedding!

(sorry, i'm getting used to this blog thing, i'm not sure how to turn the pictures yet)

Brides bouquet is made of Black Bacarra (dark red) and Classic Duet (peachy-pink) roses with green ivy.

This wrap has knots and black buttons, looks similar to the groom's tux.

This was the Throw Bouquet. Not all roses are created equal. The pinkish rose is a columbian rose, (called Classic Duet) that have huge heads! This point is well illistrated in this picture.

A little decoration with some left over flowers.

Cake.

Ok. my bout skills have totally evolved! I promise!

Silk's not so bad

The other day, I created my first silk wedding bouquet, posy and bout. I really enjoyed it! It was for my brother-in-law's brother Brent and his new wife Sonia. She wasn't picky, so she let me pick it out and everything. *Crossing Fingers* I hope she likes it as much as I do!

Hopefully real pictures to follow...
